The Dachau concentration camp was established in March 1933. It was the first regular concentration camp established by the National Socialist (Nazi) government. Lilly Klug was born in Vienna, c. 1910, to parents Gisela Klug (1885-1942) and Salamon Klug (?-1938). Her parents had a small garment shop. Lilly's brother, Paul, left Austria in early 1938 and eventually settled in Greenwood, North Carolina. Lilly's fiance, Richard Isler, was arrested during Kristallnacht and sent to Dachau.
